For fans of: 21st century Psych-Folk
What they're saying: A review from Pow Magazine revels in the archival nature of the latest release from Woods: “Many of these songs were shelved because the band was unable to capture the essential feeling on the demo recordings. There are several strong songs and deep-cuts with freak-folk psychedelic jams that we have not heard from Woods in nearly 10 years.” And the band themselves speak on the record’s intentions: “Our hope is that it plays like a "lost record" from an extremely strange and fruitful period in Woods history.”
What we say: Reflections Vol. 1, the first record in their archival series, features rare and unreleased recordings from 2009-2013, which is the perfect Woods era in my eyes. These recordings nicely capture their sound’s origins in an 00s mix of freak-folk, improv psych, and lo-fi pop.
