Charts Recap: January 4th - 10th, 2021

We’ve got our first full week’s worth of sales in the books for 2021, and a new top-ten chart posted! The TALKING HEADS had themselves a week knocking the Cowboy Bebop soundtrack out of the number one spot with the reissue of Speaking In Tongues, while also landing in the number six spot with the reissue of The Name Of The Band double-live set. Originally released in 1983, this saw the band getting back together after their far flung side projects, and the product is classic!

Also, wow, what a week for alternative rock! We say there isn’t anything wrong with the nineties! NIRVANA, PEARL JAM, and WEEZER all showed up with their breakout classics in this week’s top-ten. We’re used to seeing the NW grunge classics sneak into this list, but must recognize the Blue Album’s strong showing this week. They’ve got a new one due in May, Van Weezer, stay tuned.

The only new music to crack the top ten this week aside from STURGILL SIMPSON’s latest hit is NICK CAVE with his solo performance titled Idiot Prayer. It’s not even entirely new, as these are old favorites, reworked into spare piano driven performances in an empty concert hall. These cuts are about as intimate as you can get in a recording. Fans of unplugging take note.
