For fans of: Contemporary bebop / semi-free jazz.
What they're saying: From London Jazz News: “The core of the album – and the trio – is set around the energy of Charlie Parker, and it starts and ends with Mahanthappa enjoying himself… with a surprising selection from the Great American Songbook and beyond.” And a review from All About Jazz adds: “Freedom from the chords and a collective gusto gives the music a rollicking, loose-jointed feeling.”
What we say: A nice selection of often familiar tunes imbued with the adventurous spirit of classic jazz. The simple trio of sax, bass, and drums leaves plenty of room for explorations. We continue to hear lots of great new jazz music coming out of the UK!
