Charts Recap: July 29th - August 4th, 2019

August has begun and Thom Yorke is firmly ensconced at the number one spot in this week’s charts. Lots of action back in the pack though! We’ve got the re-emergence of the Violent Femmes, our latest Staff-Pick from Freddie Gibbs & Madlib in both charts, and two excellent records from Tys hot on Thom’s heels.

The first Ty record is Ty Segall’s newest titled First Taste. In very uncharacteristic fashion his latest record was made without one thing that many of us know Ty for, the guitar! It’s still an exhilarating psych-rock ride and a novel entry into an expansive discography.

The other Ty is actually a Tyler. Tyler Childers is a name you need to know if you’re a fan of high-quality contemporary country music of the type you won’t exactly hear on country music radio. Country Squire, produced by Sturgill Simpson, showcases the song-writers talents with rough edges intact. Give a listen.
