For fans of: Spaced-out and inventive instrumental beat records.
What they're saying: Here in the guise of producer and not vocalist, Georgia follows here own muse “firmly outside of what’s trending” according to The Guardian. Bandcamp named VWETO II their album of the day, finding her centered on what she does best; making “West Coast funk, jazz-influenced, and psychedelic beats.”
What we say: Cole here at the shop was a champion of the contemporary neosoul stylings of Georgia Anne Muldrow's excellent Overload released last year on Flying Lotus' Brainfeeder label. With a list of executive producers like Aloe Blacc, Dudley Perkins and Flying Lotus himself, alongside producers Mike & Keys, Khalil and Moods, she made a richly expressive 21st century exploration at the cutting edge of contemporary hiphop and soul. Less than a year later she's back with a notably different album released on Mello Music Group. "Vweto II" is instead a minimalist venture into downtempo hiphop instrumentals in the vein of Damu the Fudgemunk, J Dilla's classic Donuts, and Ras G's My Kinda Blues. - JP
