Charts Recap: June 24th - 30th, 2019

June of 2019 has come and gone, but we’ve got one last set of top-ten charts from it. Help Us Stranger from The Raconteurs helps itself to a second week at number one while the new Prince collection is our number one CD. This Prince collection deserves a look from even casual fans as it’s a set of the songs he wrote for others performed by the Purple One himself. More than a demos collection, this one includes new contexts for a few songs you’ve heard a million times before. Give it a preview.

Word is out on Black Midi! Schlagenheim is our big climber this week up to #3. Also a budding store favorite. These British youths are dialed into some flavors of out-there guitar rock we’ve been STARVING for. Old heads will be rooting through their math-rock memories trying for the right comparison but these guys have recontextualized a lot of that controlled chaos into a totally new thing. Highly recommended.

And our local winners this week are Select Level with their self-titled debut LP. It’s an LP of perfect summer sounds for luxurious sunsets. Expect sleek chilled out boogie-infused electronic-rock that still feels very alive and full of grooves. Very fresh. Also we were lucky enough to host a performance here last week!
