Summer has finally arrived, as has another round of Sonic Boom best-seller charts! The Raconteurs have reemerged after a decade long slumber to land at the number-one spot on our vinyl charts this week fittingly as NME calls Help Us Stranger a “very analogue album for a digital world”. The White / Benson supergroup are likely comfortable atop our best-sellers as a few of their previous records are among our all-time best-sellers.
And what’s the deal with this Plantasia LP you’ve been seeing everywhere? Well the number two in our vinyl charts has quite the story. The soothing soundscapes from synth pioneer Mort Garson were originally only released as a promotional LP given away for free with the purchase of a fern or some such. Thanks to the folks at Sacred Bones this hight-quality reissue of this lovely rarity is widely available.
And this week’s note-worthy chart climbers are Baroness! These vets really put work into the punk-informed stony metal sound that some of us may take a little bit for granted nowadays. Gold & Grey shows they’ve still some new angles to play, twisting their sound into some more psyched-out and tuneful forms. Very good, rising in both of our charts!
