For fans of: Global psych-rock with good vibes.
What they're saying: A recent feature on the Drowned In Sound website nicely sums up Altin Gun’s mission on Gece as to “repurpose Turkish folk standards and classics, injecting them with a healthy dose of funk and psychedelia”. Another review over at UK Vibe will give you a little more background on the groups roots in last century’s Anatolian rock.
What we say: The vintage psych-funk vibes on Gece are a thrilling collision of western traditions and Turkish folk. This is an great sounding and insanely tight band playing with some influences you don’t get to hear in the mix too often. Good for the obsessive record collector types or just casually vibing out.
Further listening: If you dig the Turkish sound and don’t know these names, definitely get familiar with Erkin Koray and Selda.
