It’s our first best-seller list of March already! Lots of strong debuts this week from Hozier, Weezer, and LA Witch, but the strongest of all was American Love Call from Durand Jones & The Indications!
We came across Durand’s music in the most old-school of record store ways. We received a poorly marked unsolicited copy of their debut record from Colemine Records before we’d even heard of either. On a lark threw it on the player. We were instant converts, telling whoever we could about our discovery whenever we could. The new one is great too, these guys are among the best REAL SOUL musicians working without a doubt. And no slow burning this time. It’s right at number one from the first week out.
Making a bittersweet appearance in out charts is the melancholic art-rock masterpiece Laughing Stock by Talk Talk. I’m sure many were acquired for in memorial of the recent passing of the band’s guiding force Mark Hollis. That record is perhaps the groups crowning achievement and swan song. The Quietus published a great examination of a bold and beautiful career for those curious.
