Let us spring forward to our latest Top-Ten Charts! Durand holds the vinyl top-seller slot for the second straight week, with the new record from Foals is our top CD. What else is happening in our charts?
Well, one of the great lost grails of the Neil Young catalog was reissued this week and landed at #2. The Dead Man soundtrack (From the moody Jim Jarmusch / Johnny Depp western from the 90s) is an oddly essential anomaly. All raw solo electric guitar, it’s a live take channeling the lonesome edge Neil’s emotive playing. Up there with Arc for the furthest-out disc in the -ography.
Sticking with deep-cuts from iconoclastic songwriters, Fat Possum has assembled a collection of unreleased and alternate takes from the late great Townes Van Zandt. Sky Blue is our #4 LP this week, and has been hotly anticipated by a certain segment of our record buying community. (a few of us at the shop amongst them.)
Down in our CD Top-Ten we’ve got a few more new record covers. There’s Piroshka, Amanda Palmer, Yola, and Hand Habits with records all worth a little of your listening bandwidth. I’ll link y’all to a really nice Hand Habits track as a start.
