Charts Recap: December 31st - January 6th, 2019

It’s a brand new year, and judging from our vinyl top-ten plenty of folks had “buy a classic LP” as one of their new year’s resolutions. Beatles, Bowie, Radiohead, Fleetwood Mac; this list is a fine primer on corner-stone records for a record collection. Naturally in such a week Dark Side of The Moon is at number one, despite the fact this was also the week we were reminded over and over again that its really the far side of the moon.

But one of these things is not like the others! At number four is the experimental pop auteur Sophie with her new record OIL OF EVERY PEARL’s UN-INSIDES. It’s a daring record that is like some bizarro world chart buster, a distorted take on the pop zeitgeist. Get familiar with Sophie!

Down in the CD charts, Jeff Tweedy is back on top. His deeply personal new solo record Warm is definitely worth your time if you’ve ever been a fan of the man. The rest of the list features some familiar record-covers, as there hasn’t been too much of a shake up here. King Gizzard & he Lizard Wizard had an oddly solid week of sales on compact disc, with their 2016 highlight popping up in the top-ten! It still sounds wild though!
