Great interview for The Guardian from store favorite Kamasi Washington. Returning after his extensive triple-disc "The Epic", released on Flying Lotus' Brainfeeder label in 2015, the Los Angeles saxophonist and bandleader delivers his newest, "Heaven and Earth" this week. Kamasi has been credited with bringing contemporary jazz to a new audience in recent years, riding a wave following his contributions to Kendrick Lamar’s landmark album, "To Pimp a Butterfly". Finding a massive and receptive audience across the US, Kamasi's sound is influenced as much by electric-era Miles Davis, the orchestrations of Gil Evans, and electro and cosmic jazz from the sound's progenitors, Herbie Hancock and Sun Ra.
