Our charts for the last week of September are in! We’ve got a new best-seller in the vinyl charts, with Prince’s unheard 1983 demos Piano & A Microphone ascending to the number one spot! Low is back atop the CD charts, and we’ve talked about both records in this column before, so let’s get into what else is going on.
In a close second place on our vinyl list is the late Johann Johannsson’s eerie and wicked soundtrack for the film Mandy. We were fortunate enough to get a small batch of the limited edition red vinyl of this one! (Give a call if you want to check stock on that variation, they’ve been going fast.) It’s a haunting last work by one of the most exciting contemporary composers working, influenced by the doom laced ambient works of Sunn0)), this isn’t a light listen, but a rewarding one.
We FINALLY have Janelle Monae’s Dirty Computer on vinyl as well. Undoubtedly, many of you were waiting for this one. We know many of y’all are fans! (Including Jenn Champion!)
CDs are for kids! At least the new Not-Its CD is for kids. The local ‘kindie’ rockers showed up for an afternoon performance this past Sunday, and it was of course adorable. If the little ones in your life need some music, this might just fit the bill! Made in Ballard!
Other notes on best-sellers: Mudhoney still rules. Thriller still rules. Channel Orange still rules. You get the idea.
