The "lost" John Coltrane recording will finally be released on June 29
It's a rare thing that a "lost" album by such a legendary artist, from one of their most game-changing and prolific eras, resurfaces years after its genesis. Later this month sees the release of such an album by the titan of American bebop, hardbop, and free-jazz, the one and only John Coltrane. Two years before his explosive venture out of melodic modal jazz with “A Love Supreme", Coltrane recorded "Both Directions at Once” with the members of his so-called classic quartet; bassist Jimmy Garrison, drummer Elvin Jones and pianist McCoy Tyner. Last week's excellent New York Times piece came on the heels of Impulse! Records announcing the June 29th release of a full set of material recorded by the quartet in March, 1963. Coltrane's personal copy of the recording was then stashed away and lost, only recently unearthed by Juanita Naima Coltrane. Needless to say, we've got SUPREME anticipation for this one!
The New York Times article by Giovanni Russonello detailing the records journey to release can be found here. Released June 29th in standard and expanded versions on both CD and LP format. Here is a sneak peek at the expanded versions:

Busy week at The Boom. The Delvon Lamarr Organ Trio and King Tuff appearing LIVE!
Two in store performances in one week is a bit unusual for us. But, we couldn't be more excited about hosting these acts.
The Delvon Lamarr Organ Trio is playing Thursday in support of their new full length, Close, But No Cigar AND their Record Store Day 2018 release, Live At KEXP!
The group channels old-school organ combos like The Meters and Booker T & The MGs, but are making it fresh and feel new again!
Sonic Boom is the first stop on a 9 date tour. The hometown trio will be hitting the stage at 7:00.
Friday brings Sub Pop artist King Tuff. Kyle Thomas, AKA King Tuff, will be performing solo in support of his new release, The Other.
Via the Sub Pop site. Thomas views the entire experience of writing and recording The Other as a kind of psychic reset. “I let the songs lead me where they wanted to go, instead of trying to push them into a certain zone. King Tuff was always just supposed to be me. When I started doing this as a teenager, it was whatever I wanted it to be. King Tuff was never supposed to be just one thing. It was supposed to be everything.”
King Tuff will perform at 7:00 Friday evening
As always, these shows are both free and all ages.
