Staff Picks: RZA - Ghost Dog (Original Motion Picture Score)
For fans of: Wu Type Beats
What they're saying: From a Slate profile of the soundtrack’s making: “The wonder of the movie is less about its story than its atmosphere: the creeping shadows of the night, the illicit underworld of the city, the stealth and agility of the samurai’s moves, the conflict between the old traditions and the new modern world arising… RZA’s trademark tinkling pianos and synths, sweeping strings, and thumping drums provide a haunting soundscape for this universe of gangsters and swordfighters.”
What we say: This 1999 Jarmusch film was tailor made thematically for a Rza soundtrack, with a modern day samurai assassin is the perfect muse. Naturally, you get a solid batch of Rza tracks that belongs in any finer collection of worthy Wu Tang solo projects. This is the score, full of the great beats that were in the film but not on the “Official” soundtrack back in the day. Vinyl available for the first time in forever.
